Job Description:

Main Objectives

  • Prepare and present health and hygiene education sessions in and outside health facilities.
  • Prepare health and hygiene education messages in collaboration with the mission responsible for health education
  • Promotion of MSF health services
  • Collaborate with the medical team in order to organize the daily activities
  • Community surveillance data collection (in liaison with community health workers) and analysis
  • To identify the main health problems and unhealthy habits of the community.
  • Staff technical supervisor: Health educator MCH, CHW’s.
  • Carry out direct activities with local population in order to promote health and hygiene and to give information about MSF activities.

Responsibilities/Activities:

Education:

  • Prepare material for health and hygiene education sessions and workshops
  • Present health and hygiene education sessions in or outside health facility.

  • Inform patients, carers and staff in health facilities about health and hygiene related issues according to protocols.

  • To encourage community involvement in all activities and treatment follow up.

  • Training for staff

Communication:

  • Wear MSF identification while on shift.
  • Communicate individually and through meetings with the parents admitted in the facility, in order to inform about the functioning of the facility.
  • Deliver information to patients, caretakers and staff regarding hygiene, diseases and prevention using tools, i.e. leaflets, pictures and interaction with population, but always respecting local customs.
  • Inform communities about MSF and services provided.
  • Collaborate with cleaners supervisor and wma operator in order to assure the hygiene standard is put in place in MSF facilities
  • Collaborate with medical teams to have proper statistic data and to share their main concerns regarding health and hygiene educational needs
  • Collaborate with CHW’s and Health Educators that are involved in health and hygiene promotion within community to ensure proper and similar messages are passed.

Screening:

  • Monitor health and hygiene situation and living conditions of population.
  • Identify the health and hygiene habits or knowledge among the patients coming to seek medical help in MSF facilities and use this information for setup of subjects for education
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all information observed or registered.
  • Use medical statistics to identify the priorities for health and hygiene education according to the diagnostics in MSF facilities
  • Follow the real impact of education session by carrying out regular observations and surveys
  • During training sessions in the waiting area carry out triage in order to prioritise the medical assistance for the patients.

Maintenance

  • Ensure cleanliness of health and hygiene education areas.

  • Monitor regularly the hygiene level in MSF facilities and in any case of inappropriateness inform the person responsible to follow up

Equipment

  • Participate in creation of any material needed for the activities of health and hygiene educators and community health workers.

  • Look after all equipment provided.

  • Ensure that no material is taken out of health educators’ bags or boxes without prior authorisation.

Reporting

  • Collect information and provide reports required by team.

  • Report to line manager of all results of health and hygiene activities in a weekly sitrep and monthly report

  • Inform line manager about any possible serious problem or complication during meetings with population in or outside health facility.

  • Inform line manager of any problems that might be linked to work of health educators as well as problematic equipment or material (ex. broken, missing).

  • Report any problem related to the health promotion, hygiene or waste management to the supervisor so that appropriate measures can be taken in this regard.

  • Report relevant information about diseases and health related behaviour within the communities.

  • Report instantly any security incident to any MSF expatriate.

Others responsibilities and task:

  • Participate in team meetings and possible trainings to increase the knowledge about the health

  • Display commitment in developing and well organizing all components of the health education activities

  • Respect the working hours

  • Inform the expatriate supervisor of any problem identified.

  • Show commitment to the organization and development of all medical activities.

  • Request: Perform any reasonable additional duties when asked by the supervisor

Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor degree in psychology, social sciences or equivalent, or 2 years paramedical technician diploma.

Experience:

  • Relevant experience in community work, social work or health promotion required

    Previous experience with NGO desirable.

Languages: Satisfactory level of English, proficient in Urdu and any other relevant local

Competences:

  • Desirable computer literacy (Word, Excel and Internet)
  • Good motivation, organizational skills and show initiative
  • Excellent communication skills – ability to communicate ideas
  • Willing to learn and receive regular trainings
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing working conditions and to the working hours that could be increased in order to meet the needs of the program
