Job Description:

Job Title:  Communication Coordinator  

(Consultancy Contract for 4 months)

Location:  Islamabad - Pakistan

Direct Reports (titles):  NA

Travel: Approximately 20-25% of time, within Pakistan.

Contract Type and Duration: This is a fixed term consultancy contract of four months duration.

Reporting line: The Position will report to the Head of Policy and Advocacy.

Key working relationships:

Internal: Country Director (CD), Senior Management Team (SMT) and programme staff of WaterAid Pakistan and relevant colleagues in WA South Asia Region and the WA Head Office.

External: Partners, consultants, media fellows, sector stakeholders and other I/NGOs.

Purpose of Role

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for effectively communicating WaterAid Pakistan (WAP) and its partners’ work to internal and external stakeholders.

The postholder will support WAP in the use of latest communication tools and techniques, in achieving our strategic objectives. This position is also responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing the overall communications plan for WaterAid Pakistan, aligned with organizational plans and targets. Increasing engagement with key audiences through effective storytelling, content strategy and production of publications is critical along with building WaterAid Pakistan media relationships. This position also manages organic social media and website content.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

1.    Ensure that all external communications including publications, media, marketing materials, merchandise and online content are consistent with WaterAid’s verbal and brand guidelines and duly follow approval modalities before dissemination.

2.    Support the development of Radio/ TV messages for key behaviour change campaigns.

3.    Manage the communications budget including budget development, forecasting and reporting as per WA policies and procedures.

4.    Manage evaluation of WaterAid's media engagement programme and develop ideas for innovative media and youth engagement in WaterAid Pakistan's upcoming Country Programme Strategy.

5.    Write and/or commission content for media and communications materials, and oversee the production of annual reports, brochures, project briefs, media releases, social media and web content.

6.    Develop and update internal communications page on the SharePoint to keep staff well informed about the latest news and events of WAP.

7.    Develop and implement media strategies to obtain media coverage in a variety of outlets, particularly during key moments such as World Water Day, Global Handwashing Day and World Toilet Day.

8.    Manage relationships and write briefs/specifications notes for external communications suppliers such as designers, copywriters, video makers, photographers etc.

9.    Manage organic content for WaterAid Pakistan social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Yammer), and moderate online communities.

10. Manage website content and upload content and articles to the WaterAid website on a regular basis.

11. Support programme teams to ensure case studies from field are designed as per organizational protocols and all data (photos and case studies etc.) is archived in the asset bank. Manage Asset bank (Photo and case stories library) and ensure all data is updated.

12. Support the senior management team in the development of presentations for the external and internal audiences.

13. Ensure that WaterAid’s communications activities meet donors and organisational requirements.

14. Work collaboratively with WaterAid international colleagues to achieve communications targets and roll out global campaigns.

15. Any other task assigned by the supervisor or senior management.

·       Master’s degree in communications, media studies or Social Sciences

Experience

·       Minimum 5 years of experience of handling/ leading communications in an I/NGO or corporate sector.

·       Understanding and hands on experience of working on latest effective communication tools.

·       Proven experience and expertise in the use of social media tools.

Knowledge & skills

·       High quality articulation and communication skills (written and verbal including excellent writing skills).

·       Proven knowledge of communications ethics and best practices.

·       Good understanding of development issues in Pakistan with experience of working with international development organizations.

·       Basic understanding of WASH projects.

·       Knowledge of local/regional languages.

·       Gender equality and diversity awareness.

·       Self-motivated person able to work without close supervision.

·       Programme development and management skills.

·       Knowledge of political structure, culture and policy making processes in Pakistan.
